MISSION STATEMENT: We are working to create communities where the physical, economic, and social conditions ensure all residents have a fair opportunity to thrive and live their healthiest life.

The Institute for Human Development, a registered California NON-PROFIT was first formed and founded in 2014 by author and motivational speaker Glenn Grant. Initially it served as a vehicle to bring personal development education that illuminated community engagement, education and mental health as part of a comprehensive program to bring awareness to the struggle that many people face to build and create the lives they want. The initial goal was to help people and provide them with information on a wide variety of issues that fall under the rubric of personal development. The foundation for providing this help and support has been over 30 years of public speaking experience and the extensive library of five books that Glenn Grant has written and published.

Our Performing Arts Initiative Project called The Awakening, our Spoken Word Musical is at the forefront

of our community engagement, outreach and programs.

SYNOPSIS: The Awakening is a coming of age—true story based upon the book that starts out with a young

boy who is ripped from his home at the age of 13 and sent away for a year after his parents divorce. From there a devastating set of events happens as the story unfolds of two young teenage boys facing adversity and tragedy. Overcoming the death of his best friend under tragic circumstances, only to walk in and find his mother dead just two short years later is the real life story of playwright, author & speaker Glenn Grant illuminated on the stage as he connects deeply with audience members who can see themselves struggling with their own unique journey through life. Judging by our recent reviews, our Spoken Word Musical connects with them at a very deep level emotionally as it takes a forensic look at the lives of at risk children coming from broken homes and their journey to survive.  Many wonderful musicals from Rent, to Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys to name just a few are incredible in their ability to entertain and showcase the performing arts. But our show, delivers the heavy messages and real life stories wrapped around fantastic live music and acting to provide the wake up call needed.

SOCIAL IMPACT THEATER

To create meaningful, lasting change, we focus on  6 interconnected areas to help improve people’s lives

OUR PURPOSE - HOW WE WORK WITH AT RISK TEENAGERS & ADULTS AND KEEP OUR SUPPORT FOR THEM INDEFINITELY.

The Institute for Human Developments The Awakening Spoken Word Musical is a mission-aligned performing arts and community impact initiative. The purpose of the program is to deliver accessible performing arts programming and human services that provides public benefit through education, community engagement, inspiration, and mental health wellness-centered outreach. The foundation for these initiates are the five books our founder Glenn Grant has written over the past several years as they serve to focus on very critical areas of a person’s life. Once a person has attended our Awakening Spoken Word Musical show, the awareness of what they are struggling with takes hold, with solutions being presented. From there we give them access to many different books to help as “books our a beginning.” From there we hold intensive workshops to arm people with critical new information, life skills, solutions and strategies to help them rebuild their lives. After they have seen the show and attended the intensive workshop, they join our online community for indefinite, life long connections, support and valued community.
